Cedar Rapids Alumnae Club
At our October meeting, we had a representative from the Catherine McAuley Center come and speak with our members. We also presented our annual donation.
At our November meeting, we had Madonna and Joanna from The Cedar Memorial Flower Shop. Madonna and Joanna showed our group how to take a few simple items and make them into beautiful arrangements/centerpieces for the holidays. Thanks for your wealth of knowledge! Can't wait to see what our members come up with!
Our December Meeting of "Sweets, Treats and treasures" Auction was a rounding success!
Our members donated over $1,000 to our club to help send a club delegate to convention and other fun things!
We also celebrated the 90th birthday of one of our favorite club members, Mary Lou Gallagher!!!
Have an update you would like to share with our members? Shoot me an email and I would be happy to put it on our website and our Facebook page!
We had a great meeting at Biaggi's Restaurant for our February meeting. It was great catching up with a small group of women after a little winter break!
Irene led us in a Leading with Values Program celebrating our Pi Phi 150th Anniversary! We all wrote notes to "our younger selves" which we will present to the current senior class. We wrote things such as always join a club wherever you are, be in the moment, etc.

While Mary Lou won't be able to attend the 150th celebration at Convention, she did attend convention the year we celebrated 100 years! How special that she was able to meet Libbie and celebrate 150 years of Pi Phi!

Convention 2017
150 years!
Our Club won three awards at Convention! We were recognized as a club of Superior Performance (second to highest level), won the Spirit Award in our Region (thanks in large part to the efforts of Irene as president over the last two years), and we were also recognized for Excellence in Communications!
Our May meeting highlighted the program "African Women Empowered" presented by Helen Armstrong. This program was established to assist African refugee women in the area, to navigate the new culture and settling into life in the United States. This program facilitates job skills, learning English, applying for citizenship, and so much more. Our members had a great time hearing about these women and their stories of how they came to America.
This year, our summer picnic was hosted on Jennifer's farm. Our members had the opportunity to catch up, have some yummy food, and even go for a hayrack ride. Thank you for hosting, Jennifer, we had a great time!
